Are there beaches in Illinois? Of course! They're beautiful places to spend your summer days.

Though we're a long way from the ocean, Illinois' plentiful lakes mean we have no shortage of beaches to enjoy the warmer months.

In Chicago, 26 miles of free public beaches provide a unique experience, with a backdrop of skyscrapers facing the endless turquoise waters of Lake Michigan. Elsewhere in the state, you'll find sandy waterfronts and quiet coves nestled at the edge of recreational lakes. Start exploring them here.

Chicago Beachfront

Where the city meets the lake

Chicago's lakefront is one of the city's finest gems. Just minutes from the skyscrapers of downtown, you can find yourself on 26 miles of open and free lakefront, with beaches dotted all the way along.

Swim, sail, walk, jog, or just enjoy the view. Beach sail runs between Memorial Day and Labor Day, with lifeguards on duty every day.
