From Local Experts

3 Days 152 Miles

Highlights

Arcola, Mahomet, Tuscola, Champaign, Sullivan, Urbana

from the local experts at Visit Champaign County

The whole family is ready to get out of the house and explore!

The greater Champaign County area offers plenty of opportunities to do so. Get moving with outdoor fun, work together in a world-class escape room, and enjoy great food during this 48-hour trip for any family!

Day 1:

Urbana, Tuscola, Arcola & Sullivan

  • Interior of a shop
  • A car and a Camel

The whole family can enjoy getting creative and hands-on with some impressive 3D printing and embroidery tech at the Champaign-Urbana Community Fab Lab. Then, stop in Tuscola for a quick bite to eat at Flesor’s Candy Kitchen, which of course means grabbing some sweet treats too.

Next, take a drive to Arcola to experience wildlife up close and personal at Aikman Wildlife Adventure. Drive-thru tours and close encounters with hyenas, zebras, and more provide a fun afternoon you can’t find at a traditional zoo. Before departing Amish Country, be sure to stop in Sullivan to explore Wyman Park, which boasts 40+ acres of outdoor recreation area and the postcard-perfect Wyman Lake for fishing and a waterfront picnic.

Lastly, put your teamwork to the test in a themed escape room at the New York Times- featured CU Adventures in Time and Space to wrap up the day.

Day 2:

Mahomet & Champaign

  • A bridge oo
  • A red bridge

Let’s kick off the day with a round of Foot Golf at Lake of the Woods in Mahomet. After working up an appetite, head back to Champaign for delicious chicken (and adult slushies for the grown-ups) at Watson’s Shack & Rail.

Finally, finish up the day stopping for candy apples and popcorn at the CBPB Popcorn Shop and enjoying the treats at Centennial Park before heading to the Sholem Aquatic Center, which features incredible water slides and a relaxing lazy river.

Day 3:

Urbana

  • Pesto pita on a plate
  • Plane display on the roof

Before heading back home, make a stop for breakfast at the Courier Café. If you’re getting a bit of a late start, no rush! Courier is also known for some incredible hamburgers and hand- spun milkshakes!
