Wetlands Preserve
830 IL Rte 26 North, Freeport, IL 61032
Fishing
Managed by the Freeport Park District, the preserve opened up as a popular fishing and wildlife area in 1997. There is a fishing pier, complete with shelter house.
57-acre wetlands preserve features wildflower, birds, and wildlife, which may be viewed from an observation deck. This is a passive recreation area, with migratory nesting sites. There are no marked trails, and boating is prohibited at this wetland. What makes this preserve unique is how close it is to the city of Freeport. While it is right along a major highway, it is isolated, with plenty of parking. People wishing to fish or take a short hike, can find themselves deep in the middle of what Mother Nature has to offer.
