The Museum, housed together with the Newton Library, was started by two druggists, Henry and Frank Schackman, who donated the first items.
The museum, containing historic and cultural items from the people of Jasper County, was officially opened to the public in the summer of 1966. Open for tours: Mon., Wed., Fri. 10am-5pm; Tues.& Thurs. 10am-7pm; Sat 10am-1pm
