Museums
Isle a la Cache Museum immerses visitors in the region’s cultural heritage and natural history.
The Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville transports visitors back to the 18th century, when "Illinois Country" was home to the fur trade and French voyageurs and Potawatomi intertwined. Feel the softness of a beaver pelt, see canoes built of birch bark and walk inside a wigwam. While you are there, check out the state-endangered Blanding's turtle tank. Then venture outside to experience the Native Lifeways exhibit, which brings the 18th-century fur trade era to life and is a continuation of the indoor exhibits. The museum offers public programs, school programs, youth group programs, interactive exhibits, facility rentals, a gift shop and free District publications and trail maps.
