432 West Nebraska Street, Frankfort, IL 60423
Public Art
Enjoy the 16 Interpretive Gazebos along the Illinois Lincoln Highway, a 179-mile National Scenic Byway in Northern Illinois. These offer a unique way for visitors to enjoy stories of the early Lincoln Highway and its Illinois communities.
Each Illinois Lincoln Highway Interpretive Gazebo is designed with the same structure, with signs mounted on the outside featuring logos for easy identification. There are four artist-rendered panels in every gazebo, specific to each location. Common in all gazebos is one panel with a map and narrative of the highway’s beginning history and culture. Unique to each gazebo are two panels telling stories and events of the nationwide Lincoln Highway. The last panel is dedicated to the community it is located in and its connection to the highway.
