Families will find lots of winter fun in the Starved Rock area of Northern Illinois. Bundle up and take a hike to see sparkling ice falls. Day 1

Hike among glittering ice falls at scenic Starved Rock State Park. Take the kids on a bald eagle tour or ride a trolley to view local historic sites. Snub your nose at winter and spend the day riding the waves at Grizzly Jack’s indoor water park.

Day 2

Tackle cross-country skiing or zoom along a forest snowmobile trail. Watch in awe as eagles take flight over the Illinois River. Enjoy a night of dinner theater or relish a meal at Woody’s Steak House, one of the oldest restaurants in the area.

Day 3

Visit a pair of bison in their Buffalo Rock State Park home. Sip high tea with your teddy bear at Starved Rock Lodge. Challenge the family to a friendly game of bowling. Pick up a snack for the road at The Cheese Shop.
